Ashburton 13.4 per cent rise!

REINZ chief executive Bindi Norwell said it was astonishing that some Canterbury areas, including Ashburton (up 13.4 per cent to $391,000) and Waimakariri (up 11.2 per cent to $515,000), had posted record median sale prices in August.

The housing market’s recovery post-lockdown had surpassed many predictions, with every region in New Zealand reporting an increase, she said.

“We’ve been hearing reports from around the country of vendors achieving good prices for the sale of their homes, but we would never have guessed that eight regions and 17 districts or cities across the country would see record median prices just four months after the entire country was in lockdown.”
